Aural Dive: “To the Moon” by Richard E (EP)

An ode to crypto — and other modern-day shibboleth

Richard E’s “To the Moon” is a tripped-out, timely metaphor of building a digital stairway to success riches — built on Atridean cobblestones, while escorted through the star lanes by at least five decades of savory musical flavors. Richard also mentions on his Bandcamp page that the song can represent a romantic angle by way of Chinese mythology.

The composer and producer, who is also half of the satisfying duo  Annabel(lee), places Prog, Jazz, Alternative, Psychedelic, and Art Rock on bold display here and adds vocals to his acoustic guitar, mellotron, bass, and programmed drum work. Jon Dalton also contributes royally with electric guitar. The atmospheric Robert Burbidge remix is a dancer of an English-style New Wave track that deserves a better experience than listening through headphones. Fire up those speakers or go to a club. Bring friends, while you’re at it. The EP also has instrumental and acapella versions.

“To the Moon” — which is available now — comes from Richard E’s upcoming album, Opening Scene, slated for release in January 2024. Until then, support Richard’s EP by visiting Bandcamp or hitting your favorite streaming spots.
