Remember when people talked about The End of the Old White Men’s Party, also known as the GOP?
I always thought that story was rubbish.
In fact, I think placing Conservatism on death watch is about as dumb as those predictions about how South Africa will rid itself of oligarchs and magically embrace equality after Nelson Mandela’s ascent and apartheid’s demise.
If Republicans—and I still prefer to call them the Party of No Brains until I see differently—ran out of Old White Men to support its interests, the party will simply find other groups to support those interests.
More specifically, the interests ultimately define what a political party will stand for.
Read the GOP’s platform and you’ll find their interests appeal to more than just old white men.
And that’s one of the reasons why the PNBs has taken control of Congress.
I can write a long post about the Party of No Guts’ problems, but I’ll save that for some other time. Let me just say that while they—like the PNBs—do not have a coherent plan for fighting the decades-long problems of stagnant wages, worker skills gaps, crumbling infrastructure and challenges to educational excellence, the PNGs does a relatively pathetic job of packaging itself as a pro-prosperity party.
Like it or not, voters react to stimuli. This means Congress will change party colors again over time if voters don’t feel richer…
