(Laughing) A “Coalition of gangs.”
You’ll find that I will make regular references to US Democrats as the Party of No Guts and Republicans as the Party of No Brains, and I have a suspicion that Former Reaganomics architect and budget director David Stockman would agree with me on the latter based on a recent interview I watched on Newsmax.
My favorite quote from Stockman came around the 4:00 mark when he was asked by David Nelson if there is anyone among the Republican leadership who can unite this clearly divided party:
No, I don’t because I think the Republican Party is not really a party it doesn’t stand for anything except reelecting itself. It’s a coalition of gangs…
The Neo-Cons, which I have no use for, are only oriented to an aggressive imperialistic foreign policy, and big defense establishment and suppression of our civil liberties. That’s bad—I’m against that…
The Tax-Cons want to just cut taxes anytime, any day, regardless of the fiscal situation. That has gone to an absurd length. I oppose that.
The Social-Cons – social policy people – you know, the Right to Life issue, gay marriage and all that, that’s irrelevant to governing a democracy in a free society.
That’s basically the heart of the Republican Party. So in that mix, how are you going to find anything that stands for Conservative economics – fiscal rectitude, free markets, sound money – it’s not there. The Republican Party is basically irrelevant to the economic crisis that faces the country.
(Laughing) It doesn’t sound like Stockman is confident in the intellectual bench strength of his own party. I won’t forget how those Tax-Cons were still yelling for tax cuts while the markets were melting in 2008…
