
Last week, I digested my weekly two-hour assortment of new tracks to possibly like. I always listen to all of them at least once, except I stumbled upon Al Green’s “Perfect Day”.
And when I say stumbled, you can probably interpret it more like “I goofily tripped”.
I was like, “Is that Al Green?”
It’s 2023, y’all. You wouldn’t blame Green for sipping Singapore Slings — or Uncle Nearest — while staring at the Siam Sea all afternoon, with recording music positioned as a passive daydream in his mind.
“This is Lou Reed?”
I’m now strutting over to the app so I can be certain.
And sure enough, Al Green covered Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”. In 2023.
Comparing vocal styles between these two legends is foolish. Both hit those bittersweet tones that make the song so unresolvable and irresistible at the same time.
But yeah, Al Green put some of that Al spice on his cover.
